Italian pop singer, Pino Gioa, opened a tribute concert Wednesday evening at the Algonquin Commons Theatre.
More than a hundred people attended the fundraising concert dedicated to the late army reservist Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, who was gunned down while standing guard at the National War Memorial last Oct. 22.

Some of the proceeds from the concert, which was organized as part of Italian Week, will go to a fund for Cirillo’s young son, Marcus.
“It took two months to put the show together, and I’m proud that we’re the first in Ottawa to do such a thing for Cirillo,” said Settimana Italiana president Claudio Pagani. “Cirillo was Italian-Canadian like I am, as well as a Canadian soldier, so it means a lot to both Italian-Canadians and Canadians.”
