Public transit on Highway 417 will become quicker with new bus lanes from Nicholas Street to the Split expected to open on June 28.
This means three lanes for the general traffic and one bus lane in each direction.
But for motorists, lane closures will continue until the fall, along with a reduced 80 km/h speed limit.
The new lanes will be dedicated to OC Transpo and emergency vehicles until 2018, when the O-Train Confederation Line Light Rail Transit Project is expected to open. Until then, the new bus lanes will aid in the conversion of the Transitway from Hurdman to Blair to the LRT.
As a result, the ramp from westbound Highway 417 east of the Split to Highway 174 eastbound will also be closed until 2018, starting June 28. Drivers can use Innes Road as a detour, where the city is making an additional eastbound lane to compensate for increased traffic during rush hour. That additional lane is expected to be ready by this fall.
More information on the new locations of OC Transpo stops and stations is available online at octranspo.com.
