An Ottawa Police constable stood in court Friday and apologized for driving drunk and hitting a parked car on a quiet Orléans street last March.

Const. Brodie Muldoon, well-liked among even criminal lawyers, played it straight up moments after the early-morning accident by staying at the scene and calling it into his own police department.

Muldoon, 32, pleaded guilty to driving over the legal limit and told the court he’s sorry. The off-duty officer was just slightly over the legal limit and has been on administrative duties since the crash, which was minor. On the morning of accident, he told the arresting officer that he had had a few, court heard.

The office was fined $1,000 and prohibited from driving for a year.

Ottawa police internal affairs unit launched an investigation on this file in March when the constable was charged. Ottawa Police said on Friday that its executive office has yet to decide if the officer will face a charge under the Police Services Act.

Muldoon is respected among the rank and file for his hard work and has been offered “universal support,” according to a senior police officer.

When Muldoon was charged, Police Chief Charles Bordeleau said the department “expects the conduct of all officers to be of the highest standard and reflective of the values of our community.”
