The Ceremonial Guard performed the first Changing of the Guard ceremony of the 2015 season today on Parliament Hill.
Founded in 1959, the ceremony is popular with tourists in downtown Ottawa, some of whom braved the drizzle to watch this summer’s inaugural ceremony.
Today also marks the start of the Ceremonial Guard’s annual sentry duty at Rideau Hall, the residence of the Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada.
Both spectacles continue until August 22.
The Ceremonial Guard is made up of regular members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
