Adrien Paquette, the 73-year-old man charged for dragging his dog behind his pickup truck in Carlsbad Springs, has pleaded guilty to three charges on June 22, the Ottawa Humane Society confirmed on Tuesday.

Paquette has been charged with wilfully causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal, causing damage to an animal by way of dragging, and uttering threats toward a witness.

In March 2014, Paquette tied his two-year-old German shepherd named Tyson to his vehicle and dragged him about a half kilometre as punishment for running away from home. The Ottawa Humane Society (OHS) found the dog in Ottawa’s rural east end after witnesses reported seeing the black-and-tan dog being dragged behind a pickup truck.

After the crime, Tyson was surrendered to the OHS to get the medical care he needed for cuts and scrapes to his paws and mouth and a terrible ear infection not related to the abuse.

Luckily, after a quick recovery Tyson was adopted into a loving family. According to the OHS, the latest report is that Tyson is happy and healthy.

Paquette is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 2.
