A young man died from his injuries after being struck by a car late Canada Day on Highway 417.
The Ottawa Paramedic Service said the man, believed to be in his 20s, was struck by the car after running into traffic at about 10:50 p.m. on Wednesday. He was without vital signs when they arrived at the scene and was later declared dead at the Civic campus of the Ottawa Hospital, paramedics said.
Paramedics added multiple motorists stopped to help the man, one covering him with a blanket. The driver of the car did stop on the highway.
It was not immediately known if the driver of the vehicle was injured.
The Ontario Provincial Police closed the highway’s westbound lanes at the Metcalfe exit and motorists are asked to avoid the area. The incident occurred on the 417 westbound before Bronson Avenue.
