The Ottawa Humane Society is looking for assistance in locating a person who left a four-month-old kitten in a sealed garbage bag in a Barrhaven park Friday morning.
A passerby found the kitten, which has been named Hope by OHS staff, when the witness heard the animal mewing.
The bag was dumped on a pile of trash near Weybridge Park.
“It’s horrifying that someone would do this to a defenceless animal,” said Sharon Miko, OHS deputy executive director. “This kitten wouldn’t have stood a chance expect for her fighting spirit that led her to cry out at the exact moment someone happened to walk by.”
The kitten has an ulcer on her right eye and a scraped nose, which OHS staff believe she got in trying to get free of the bag.
“Hope is doing remarkably well for a kitten who had a brush with death,” Miko said.
“She is a little banged up but beyond that, she is just a sweet and playful little girl who now gets a second chance at life.”
Anyone with information is asked to call OHS rescue and investigation services at 613-725-3166, ext. 224.
