A 70-year-old man is expected to be charged with second-degree murder Wednesday afternoon after police allege he stabbed his own son several times in the chest and abdomen during a drunken rage Tuesday evening.
John Frank Mcrae, 70, was arrested Tuesday evening at the apartment he shared with his son, 51-year-old Michael Mcrae. Police received a 911 call at around 6:45 p.m. reporting a man with several lacerations to his body. When they arrived at the three-level walkup at 6632 Notre Dame St. in Orléans, they found Michael stabbed several times and unresponsive. He was taken to hospital but died of his extensive injuries.
John Mcrae was led away from the building in handcuffs.
The father and son had lived in unit 106 in the building for what’s believed to be less than a year. Neighbours said bouts of fighting between them were common.
Alyssa Kretzul, who lives on the third floor of the building, told the Citizen Tuesday evening that she and her father heard arguing coming from the Mcrae’s apartment Tuesday afternoon.
“We let our landlords know that we heard some screaming and swearing going back and forth, threatening each other.”
A manager at BMR Builder’s Warehouse in Orléans where Michael had been a longtime employee didn’t want to say much about his former employee out of respect for the Mcrae family’s loss.
“He was a good guy,” he said.
More to come.
