Two people are in hospital after a skydiving accident near the Gatineau airport.
Sgt. J.P. LeMay of the Gatineau police said a man and a woman were doing a tandem skydive shortly before 2 p.m., and a parachute appears to have malfunctioned.
Both survived the fall, he said, and were transported to the Hull Hospital.
As Gatineau police arrived in the scene, a woman who answered the phone at GoSkydive, a company that operates skydiving services, including tandem jumps, at the airport, said that “the situation is unclear right now.”
In a tandem jump, an instructor and client jump simultaneously, harnessed to one another, eventually reaching a speed of about 200 km/h in a one-minute freefall, before the parachute opens.
Police are investigating.
