Police are investigating after a second scuba diver died along the shores of the St. Lawrence River this weekend.

Emergency crews were called at about 2 p.m. Sunday after reports that a man who had been scuba diving had been pulled unconscious from the water near Sparrow Island near Brockville.

The OPP said Raymond Bloch, 55, of Tecumseh, On. was brought to St. Lawrence Park where he was transported by paramedics to hospital. It was in hospital that Bloch was pronounced dead.

Bloch’s death came one day after prominent Cornwall documentary filmmaker and one-time provincial Liberal candidate John Earle, 43, died after being pulled unconscious from Lake St. Lawrence in Cornwall’s Guindon Park after scuba diving. Guindon Park is located along the shore of the St. Lawrence River.

The coroner’s office is leading the investigation into the latest death. It is unknown at this time whether Bloch’s death is related to scuba diving, or problems pertaining to some sort of medical issue.

A post mortem examination was scheduled for Monday in Ottawa.
