Ottawa police recovered a dog that was missing its head from the Ottawa River in the Manotick area Sunday.
Emergency services received a call at approximately 4:30 p.m. from someone who had spotted what appeared to be a body in the river near 6071 James Bell Dr.
Crews quickly determined that the body was not human, but a dog. Police said its head had been separated from its body.
Police said they recovered the dog’s body from the river and turned it over to the Ottawa Humane Society to investigate.
Details on the circumstances of the dog’s death were not immediately available.
Police did not say whether it was being treated as suspicious.
