Lucy van Oldenbarneveld, CBC News Ottawa’s popular co-anchor, is temporarily leaving her job after having been diagnosed earlier this month with Stage 2 breast cancer.
“The reality is just sinking in, as it must for thousands of women every year,” she said Monday in announcing her decision to step away from her duties while she receives treatment.
She is taking an optimistic view of her situation.
“Many, many fight it and survive and that’s my plan too,” van Oldenbarneveld said in an email to her CBC colleagues and on her Facebook page. “I’m feeling scared, but optimistic. I’m ready to fight this!”
Van Oldenbarneveld, who also hosts the weekly TV magazine Our Ottawa, expressed gratitude for the “love and support I have from those around me.”
Best wishes can be sent to her Twitter account, @LucyvanOlden, or via email to cbcnewsottawa@cbc.ca.
