A carwash worker in Gatineau was taken to hospital with a fractured spine and serious head injuries Monday after a car surged out of control.
A woman, 52, suffered less serious injuries to her legs in the incident in which a vehicle modified for a disabled driver was dropped off at Les Chamois carwash, 825 Boul. de la Carrière at about 2 p.m.
The vehicle’s brake and gas pedals had been inverted to assist its regular operator.
A carwash attendant attempting to pull the vehicle into the wash apparently confused the pedals and, instead of braking, he accelerated through two workers who were standing inside the carwash.
The 55-year-old man with spine and head injuries was listed in serious condition Tuesday.
No charges have been laid.
Gatineau police continue to investigate the incident, along with Quebec’s Ministère du travail.
