Hot weather is being blamed for minor injuries suffered by three firefighters at a house fire in the Carlington area early Thursday.
Seven people escaped the blaze that was called in at 1517 Edgecliffe Ave. shortly before 5 a.m.
Firefighters arriving on scene were greeted by flames shooting through the roof of the home. A second alarm was called.
Seven people living at the home managed to flee unscathed.
Ottawa Fire Services spokesman Bob Rainboth said firefighters suffered from the the outside temperature as well as the heat of the blaze.
“It’s all the gear and the exertion, the heat of the fire. The firefighters were treated at the scene and they were released.”
The temperature at the fire scene at 5 a.m. was estimated at 27 C with the “Humidex” conversion, even without the heat generated by the fire itself.
A fire investigator is on the scene and damages are estimated at $700,000.
