Ottawa - Councillor Diane Deans, Chair of Community and Protective Services Committee, and Ottawa Fire Services invite the media to see young women training in some of the duties of an Ottawa firefighter as they participate in the week-long Camp FFIT (Female Firefighters in Training).
Camp FFIT runs from August 17 to 21, and is the result of a partnership between Ottawa Fire Services and Fire Service Women of Ontario – a non-profit association of career women and volunteers from across Ontario.
Date: Tuesday, August 18
Time: 1 to 3 p.m.
Photo opportunity at 1 p.m.
Location: Ottawa Fire Services Training Division Building
898 Industrial Avenue
Note: steel-toe shoes are required for everyone participating in this event. Helmet and safety glasses will be provided.
Please check in at the main entrance on the west side of the building, behind the fire hall.
Camp FFIT provides young women an opportunity to experience first-hand what it takes to be firefighter – including physical fitness, being a team player and possessing a strong work ethic. It also gives young women the self-confidence to explore a career in one of the most reputable public service professions in the world – firefighting.
