The teen accused of killing 18-year-old Connor Stevenson in an apparent drug deal gone wrong in April will find out next month if he’ll win bail while awaiting trial for second-degree murder.

The week-long bail hearing for David Dubois, 19, ended on Friday afternoon and Judge Martin James is scheduled to deliver his ruling on Sept. 14.

Dubois is accused of stabbing Stevenson to death in the stairwell of a Jasmine Crescent apartment building. Police told the Citizen in April that Stevenson had been stabbed at least three times in the chest and stomach during a botched drug deal.

Dubois has no criminal record and used to work with his alleged victim at Tim Hortons. He was charged 10 days after Stevenson was killed.

Stevenson’s mother has told the Citizen that her dead son was not involved in the drug trade.

Dubois, represented by Ottawa defence lawyer Ewan Lyttle, is currently at the old Innes Road jail awaiting the judge’s ruling on bail. The murder charge has not yet been tested in court and all evidence heard at this week’s bail hearing is shielded by law under a standard publication ban.
