Dozens of motorcycle enthusiasts from around the region headed down the highway Saturday morning in the inaugural Ride for Robin fundraising event for the Wings of Phoenix Association, to raise funds to assist victims of brain injuries.
Sgt. Robin Easey was shot on Sept. 1, 1984, on a call for a holdup at the Bayshore Shopping Centre. He was left with severe brain injuries. He uses a wheelchair and is legally blind.
Easey takes part in a number of fundraisers, but as an avid motorcycle lover before the shooting, the Rideau Raceway to Kemptville ride is a favourite.
Among the riders Saturday were members of Ottawa Police Services, the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club (comprised of active and retired police officers).
