Highway 117 in Grand-Remous, Que., remained closed Wednesday morning after a prisoner in a police pickup truck turned violent and caused a collision with a heavier truck Tuesday night.
All three people in the police vehicle were injured, but the injuries are not life-threatening.
Two Sûreté du Québec officers were escorting a prisoner in a marked SQ pickup with an extended cab.
Somehow the prisoner managed to release his seatbelt even though he was wearing handcuffs. He allegedly began to struggle with the two officers about 9:30 p.m., causing the driver to lose control of the truck.
The SQ vehicle crashed into a larger truck hauling a trailer.
The SQ driver was the most seriously injured of the three. The crash demolished the front of the police truck.
Grand-Remous is north of Maniwaki, about 170 kilometres north of Ottawa.
