Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the capital region, as part of an area extending from Cornwall to Petawawa.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain. Thunderstorms are expected to develop later this morning or this afternoon,” the agency advises.
“Rainfall amounts of 50 mm or more will be possible with thunderstorms, especially for regions that receive multiple thunderstorms.”
The storms are expected to abate with the passage of a cold front through the region later today.
