A Gatineau couple are homeless after a fire destroyed their home late Saturday night.
Firefighters were called to 886 Notre Dame St just before 10 p.m. to find the one-story house engulfed in fire, with flames shooting from out windows and doors at three different points of the building, officials said.
The adult residents, a man and a woman, were not at home at the time but arrived while firefighters were battling the blaze. The man was taken to hospital after suffering a shock.
The house was destroyed in the fire, which was brought under control by firefighters just before midnight. Damages were estimated at about $140,000.
Firefighters said the fire appeared suspicious and as a result Gatineau police are investigating to determine the cause.
