The Ride Across Canada came through the capital on Sunday, as the veterans on horseback continued to make their way toward the East Coast.
Veteran Paul Nichols, who served in the 1990s Balkan conflict and is the founder of the Communities for Veterans Foundation, is attempting to raise awareness about post-traumatic stress, suicide and family strife within the military.
The 11,000-kilometre Ride, which began on April 13 in Victoria, is scheduled to end on Nov. 4 in St. John’s.
Nichols said on his foundation’s website that, throughout the ride, the goal is to share the stories of more than 700 veterans across the country, encourage discussion and bridge the gap between Canada’s civilian and military communities.
