A driver whose car struck and severely injured a tow-truck driver at the scene of an earlier collision has been charged with having “improper tires,” Ontario Provincial Police said Tuesday.
Zoya Flick, 19, of Smiths Falls, was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act after the Aug. 26 collision on Highway 417 near Palladium Drive.
The 45-year-old tow truck operator suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital. Three other people were treated at hospital and released.
The collision drew attention to the risks emergency responders face on busy highways. On Sunday, about 60 tow truck drivers travelled in a convoy from the accident scene to the Ottawa Hospital to show support for their injured colleague.
