Hydro Ottawa was hoping to restore power to thousands of blacked-out customers across the city by early Thursday morning.
Ten thousand hydro customers across the region lost their electrical power Wednesday night as a thunderstorm swept across the area.
“This storm has caused several outages across the city,” Hydro Ottawa officials said on Twitter. “Crews are responding.”
The utility listed outages in Kanata, West Carleton, Stittsville, Goulborn and Westboro. Others occurred in the Richmond Road area from Churchill to Hillcrest avenues. Tunney’s Pasture and the Hinchley Avenue area were also affected.
The most severely affected area appeared to be West Carleton, Stittsville-Kanata West, and Rideau-Goulbourn, where about 4,900 customers were without power. Another 2,700 customers in Kanata North and Kanata South were in the same predicament.
As of 10 p.m., Hydro officials said they hoped to have power restored by 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
