Twin Glebe rental townhomes that were supposed to be move-in ready nearly a week ago have still yet to be inhabited by the nearly dozen university students who had to scramble to find temporary accommodations in Ottawa.

The townhomes, at Fourth Avenue and Bank Street, were still empty Sunday afternoon when the Citizen visited the property. Students hadn’t moved in yet but two cleaners who were on site said the homes had been finished and were ready for students.

Students were left in the lurch on Sept. 1 when they arrived at the property to find both townhomes unfinished.

The houses, owned by Takyan Consulting & Development, weren’t ready because contractor work on them had been unexpectedly delayed, property manager Rakan Abushaar previously told the Citizen.

Takyan had told all the students that they would be reimbursed for their hotel accommodations. A second move-in date was set for last Friday, but that deadline came and went without the students unpacking at the townhomes.

Multiple attempts Sunday to reach Abushaar and several students who previously spoke to the Citizen were unsuccessful.
