Ottawa commuters have taken to Twitter to express their outrage with OC Transpo after massive delays in Tuesday morning’s commute.
According to several riders, delays in getting downtown have stretched for over an hour. One rider even said lineups at Hurdman Station, east of Downtown, are stretching into the hundreds of riders.
Calls to the City of Ottawa’s media relations were not returned Tuesday morning. However, an email response from Marielle Picher, a spokeswoman for the city, suggested that anyone concerned about delays should check OC Transpo’s Twitter account for updates. The Twitter account stated delays were no more than 20 minutes.
“I’d recommend checking OC Transpo’s twitter account for updates,” said Picher.
Delays of between 15 to 20 minutes can be expected due to heavy traffic through Hurdman station.

Despite OC Transpo’s Twitter reassurances, riders had a different story to tell.

“45 minutes later made it from Lycée Claudel to Hurdman Station. Please don’t let this be the new norm,” said Mel Lyon on Twitter.
“10 min bus ride has turned into an 1hr,” said a Twitter users with the name”baglicious” on Twitter.
“May want to report not to take Oc Transpo as the transit way is backed up, been sitting at campus for almost 20 mins”, wrote another Twitter user “EmzMC13” on Twitter.
Congestion along OC Transpo routes seemed rampant Tuesday morning, with buses backed up bumper to bumper all around Laurier Street and Nicholas Street in downtown Ottawa. The traffic gridlock comes at the same time as massive construction along Rideau Street downtown has caused the closure of the road to cars and most bus traffic for the next three years.
—More to come.
