Gatineau police are looking to speak to two Good Samaritans who helped an elderly cyclist who fell off his bike but then later died.
Police said the 80-year-old man fell off his bike while riding somewhere in Gatineau on Aug. 30. A man and woman came to the cyclist’s aid and helped him return home to his spouse, according to police.
But hours later, the man went to hospital complaining of pain in his head and later died from a head injury.
Police said the man’s spouse didn’t know the names of the two people who helped her husband or where exactly the accident occurred. Police would like to speak to the pair or anyone else who witnessed the man’s fall.
According to police, the man was riding a grey Trek bicycle with saddle bags on either side of the rear wheel. He was wearing a light green wind jacket over a blue shirt with a floral pattern and had on brown pants. The man’s helmet was a red wine colour and was covered in fabric that made it resemble a hat.
Police are not releasing the man’s name.
Anyone who witnessed the cyclist’s fall or knows the people who helped him is asked to call Det. Sgt. Karen Longtin at 819-243-2345, ext. 6237 or Gatineau police at 819-246-0222.
