Ottawa and Gatineau Liberal candidates gathered at a community centre in Vanier Thursday morning to back plans announced by Justin Trudeau to make housing more affordable in Canada’s most expensive cities.

They also promised to bring back the traditional long-form census.

The two are related, said Mauril Bélanger. While he said the Liberals will work with provinces, territories and cities, “first we ask StatsCan to re-establish the long-form census so that we have pertinent information, accurate information.”

It was the first of two party platform meetings scheduled in Ottawa Thursday.

Nepean candidate and the Green Party’s small business and entrepreneurship critic Jean-Luc Cooke will be joined by eight other Ottawa area Green Party candidates at the Broadway Bar & Grill in Barrhaven at 6:30 p.m. to launch the party’s small-business platform.

In their platform released Wednesday, the Greens promised to create a federally funded $1-billion-per-year grant to help support emerging technologies and provide early stage financing. They also promised to fund community-supported agriculture, farmers’ markets, small-scale farms and food producers.
