An investigation is underway after a 44-year-old about 35 metres fell from the downtown Alexandra Bridge onto some rocks.
Bystanders witnessed the fall shortly before 2 p.m. and called 911. The man was conscious after hitting the rocks in the river, and he was struggling to reach shore.
Ottawa paramedics, assisted by fire and police, managed to rescue the man from the water and he was treated at the scene for “traumatic” injuries to his head, face, chest and back.
He was taken in serious condition to the Ottawa Hospital Civic trauma unit.
