Mayor Jim Watson plans to host an information forum in early October to provide members of the public with information on the resettlement of Syrian migrants in the Ottawa area.
The forum, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 1, between 5:30 and 7 p.m. will be held at city hall, the mayor’s office announced Sunday. The idea is to bring Ottawa residents and community groups together with “subject matter experts” who can provide them with knowledge and contacts needed to get involved.
The session will feature short presentations from previously sponsored families, experts in refugee resettlement and representatives from frontline organizations on how residents and community groups can assist in any resettlement efforts. A question-and-answer period will follow.
Various organizations will also distribute information so Ottawans are better able to understand the process and, if they wish, sign up to assist in whatever way they can.
