There’s a new candidate in the hotly contested battle for Ottawa West — Nepean, and this one’s not ashamed to have a skeleton or two in the closet.

Mr. Bones, the rooftop mascot of Carling Family Chiropractic, launched his Mr. Bones for Prime Minister campaign this week.

Bones, who regularly sports seasonal garb such as Sens and Redblacks jerseys, Halloween costumes and summer fun swim wear, is a fixture in the neighbourhood around Lincoln Fields Mall. He’s been stolen three times and was carried away by a mini tornado in 2009. Staff at the clinic worried, too, that Mr. Bones’s campaign (he’s not really registered as a candidate) might violate an Elections Canada law. “We wondered if we were going to get in trouble for it,” said Dr. Robin Mallory.

Nevertheless, staff hammered together a platform for their calcified candidate.

1. Canadians want a prime minister with a back bone

2. It is time to align the country

3. It won’t be a one man show — it will be a joint effort

4. More mobility for seniors

5. Your prime minister should have a humerus part and occasionally crack you up

6. We are not nervous about Canada’s future
