City is putting down roots to develop an Urban Forest Management Plan

Ottawa – The City of Ottawa will recognize National Tree Day on Wednesday, September 23 by launching the development of Ottawa’s Urban Forest Management Plan. Residents are invited to learn more about the development of a forest management plan by attending Urban Trees: Putting Down Roots for the Future at the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne Park.

The event will include a tree expo beginning at 6 p.m. which will feature displays by environmental organizations focused on urban forests. At 7 p.m. there will be a formal presentation by Philip van Wassenaer, who is a leading expert in arboriculture and urban forest management.


Date: Wednesday, September 23

Time: 6 to 8 p.m. – (presentation at 7 p.m.)
Location: Horticulture Building at Lansdowne Park
1525 Princess Patricia Way


Residents can register for this event by emailing urbantree@ottawa.ca. Admission is free.

The development of an Urban Forest Management Plan is listed as a Strategic Initiative in the 2015-2018 Term of Council Priorities.

Ottawa’s Urban Forest Management Plan will define the environmental, social and economic services provided by our urban forest and will provide a plan to ensure its long-term health.
