Fire drove everyone out of an eight-unit apartment building in the Mont-Bleu neighbourhood of Gatineau early Friday, though in the end firefighters confined the damage to one apartment.
It took 22 firefighters and eight trucks to fight the blaze at 50 Georges Bilodeau Street, and it was under control a little after 1:30 a.m.
Twenty-four people evacuated the building, and three people in one apartment have lost their home. The rest were allowed to return.
Firefighters estimate the damage at $31,125. They haven’t established the cause of the fire. They note that one of the apartments had a non-functioning smoke alarm, although alarms elsewhere in the building did go off.
