Ottawa police chief Charles Bordeleau can add these two skills to his LinkedIn profile: Bad actor and good sport.
A recent United Way ad features a uniformed Bordeleau sitting down at a lunchroom table to tuck into an Art-Is-In sandwich, only to be chastised by a young woman sitting next to him (United Way co-chair Danya Vered) for not waiting until the organization’s Launch in the Park event at City Hall on Thursday, when he’ll be able to nosh with others.
The 30-second spot closes with Bordeleau offering a bite of his sandwich to a cardboard cutout of Ottawa musician Jeremy Fisher, who will be performing at the event. “Want some, too?” Bordeleau asks, his delivery as stiff as the cutout.
Launch in the Park kicks off United Way Ottawa’s campaign, and features a lunch of Art-Is-In sandwiches served by such local celebrities as Bordeleau, councillors Mark Taylor, David Chernushenko and Marianne Wilkinson, and MP Mauril Belanger. Mayor Jim Watson, perhaps the grand master of bad acting and good sportsmanship, will also be among the servers.
The event, at which the United Way will announce its campaign targets, will also feature a fundraiser for youth homelessness. It takes place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Marion Dewar Plaza at City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave. W. Tickets are $40 and available at www.unitedwayottawa.ca/event-evenement/launch-in-the-park/2015-09-24/
