Ottawa – Construction work on a new signalized crossing for pedestrians and cyclists on Bronson Avenue, just south of Colonel By Drive, will require closing the Northbound Bronson Avenue off-ramp to Bronson Place and Colonel By Drive for ten days starting tomorrow, September 30.

Work in the area includes the installation of traffic signals, sidewalks, curbs, bicycle lanes, multi-use paths, streetlights, some underground work, modifications to the Bronson Avenue on- and off-ramps connecting to Colonel By Drive and Bronson Place, and curb improvements at the intersection of Bronson Place and Colonel By Drive.

To allow construction crews to work safely, the Northbound Bronson Avenue off-ramp to Bronson Place will be closed from Wednesday September 30 at 7 a.m. to Friday October 9 at 7 a.m., weather permitting. A signed detour will be in place directing traffic via Sunnyside Avenue, Seneca Street and Colonel By Drive. During the detour, Ottawa Police Services will minimize traffic impacts by monitoring flow and directing traffic at key intersections along the detour route.

During construction, access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained on a shared path. A bus stop northbound on Bronson just south of the Bronson/Colonel By interchange will be temporarily moved.

The new crossing will be in operation by the end of November, with landscaping and final paving scheduled for next spring or summer.

With all of the construction-related activities underway, residents are encouraged to be flexible with commuting times, stagger work hours or use alternative means for travel. The public is asked to consider options such as transit, walking, cycling or carpooling.
