Bernie Ashe, CEO of the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, has been named the CEO of the Year for 2015 by the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce.
“In the past two years, OSEG has built a shiny new stadium with cutting-edge amenities, drawing sellout crowds, constructed a prime piece of Ottawa real estate and restored a sense of pride in Ottawa football with the Ottawa RedBlacks and Ottawa soccer with the Ottawa Fury FC,” the chamber says in a news release.
Ashe, a graduate of the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management, is a veteran executive in Ottawa tech and sports communities.
He has held senior executive posts with KOTT Group, a lumber supply company, and at travel security firm AiT (now 3M-AiT).
For 1991-97, Ashe was executive vice-president and chief ooperating officer of the Ottawa Senators, working under then-owner Rod Bryden, the first recipient of the chamber’s CEO of the Year.
Ashe is a trustee and former chairman of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and is on the board of the Shaw Centre, and Celebrations Ottawa, the organization planning a range of Ottawa events for the Canada 150 sesquicentennial in 2017.
