There was twice the trebuchet fun for those attending the annual Smashing Pumpkins event at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum on Saturday.
After the event went over so well last year, organizers armed themselves with a second pumpkin-slinging catapult in 2015.
Besides the opportunity to launch pumpkins and watch them smash to bits on the museum’s west field, participants also learned about the mechanics of trebuchets before firing away.
And the fun didn’t stop there. Again, after the success of Smashing Pumpkins 2014, a second day was added this year. The orange bombs will be taking flight again on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
And don’t fret about all those wasted “shell casings” littering the ground. The smashed pumpkins are used to feed farm animals on site.
