Ottawa police have charged a man in a series of robberies in the past month and say they are looking for his female accomplice.

The robberies began with early morning holdups at convenience stores on Tartan Drive in Barrhaven and Carbrooke Street in Kanata on Sept. 15. In both, a man and a woman indicated to the clerk that they had a weapon and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

On Saturday and Sunday, a man with a handgun robbed three cab drivers. Two of the drivers picked up the man in the Merivale Road-Shillington Avenue area and were asked to drive him to the Debra Avenue area; in the third robbery, the man was picked up on Rideau Street and asked to be taken to the Merivale-Shillington area.

Ricky Gervil of Ottawa faces charges of robbery, weapon possession, wearing a disguise and breach of probation.

Police say the female suspect remains unidentified. She is described as having a darker complexion, possibly Hispanic or Middle Eastern, and a medium to chubby build.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police robbery unit at 613-236-1222 ext. 5116 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
