Ottawa –Mayor Jim Watson andOttawa Board of Health member Councillor Michael Qaqish will join students and staff from St. Jerome Catholic School, Steve MacLean Public School and l'École élémentaire catholique Bernard-Grandmaître to proclaim International Walk (iWALK) to School Week in Ottawa.
Parents and staff at the three Riverside South schools worked together with the City of Ottawa, Ottawa Public Health and Green Communities Canada to have a new 40 km/h school speed zone implemented on Spratt Road this past summer.
Date: Wednesday, October 7
Time: 9:20 - 10 a.m.
Location: St. Jerome Catholic School, 4330 Spratt Road (Riverside South)
Parking: Visitor parking lot, St. Jerome Catholic School
At 9:30 a.m., Mayor Watson, Councillor Qaqish and Ottawa Catholic School Board Chairperson Elaine
McMahon will join students north of the intersection of Shoreline Drive and Spratt Road and walk to St. Jerome
Catholic School. A brief ceremony will follow in the school gymnasium.
St. Jerome Catholic School and Steve MacLean Public School are recent graduates of Green Communities Canada’s Ottawa School Travel Planning Program, which brings together schools, school boards, Ottawa Public Health and other City of Ottawa departments to develop and implement action plans to improve safety for children already walking and biking to school, and to encourage more families to choose active transportation for all or part of the journey to school.
