Vacancies in several top jobs are not creating instability at Ottawa City Hall, Mayor Jim Watson said Tuesday.
Two deputy city manager positions are being filled by administrators in a temporary capacity, and city manager Kent Kirkpatrick announced recently that he plans to retire when his contract is up at the end of March.
And now, with the tabling of the 2016 budget just around the corner, city treasurer Marian Simulik said Tuesday she will soon take a medical leave.
The mayor said he’s not concerned about the situation because Kirkpatrick has done a good job of succession planning.
The deputy city manager position vacated in February by Nancy Schepers is being filled by John Moser. The other, vacated by Steve Kanellakos in April, is being filled by Susan Jones. Both are longtime city employees described by Watson as “solid administrators.”
“We’ve got some good people in the deputy city mangers’ jobs,” he said.
Isabelle Jasmin, Simulik’s deputy treasurer, will stickhandle the upcoming budget deliberations.
Schepers remains on the city’s payroll, as she is serving as an executive adviser in the light rail planning and implementation office. Kanellakos left Ottawa to become the city manager in Vaughan.
