Seven children have won Stetson hats for naming six foals born at the RCMP Breeding Farm in Pakenham this spring. This year they’ve added some creative spelling.
It’s a tradition for the Mounties to have a naming contest open to children, and this year all names had to begin with the letter M.
Three of the winners are from Eastern Ontario, and some of them are very young.
The winning names are:
• Monark, from Allison Patrick, 12, of Oxford Station.
• Mavrik, from Maverick Gaudet, 3, of Kanata.
• Minion, from Seth Burke, 6 and Micah Burke, 4, of Murray River, PEI.
• Minuit, from Lacey Shea Trainor, 9, of Johnstons River, PEI.
• Maple, from Connor Udal, 11, of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan.
• Maya, from Bridget Zavitske, 8, of Dunrobin.
The kids may have to grow if they want to wear the Stetsons. These are all hats worn by Mounties in the Musical Ride. Each prize also includes a set of Musical Ride trading cards, a “horse & rider leaf pin,” a framed photo of the foal they named and a certificate signed by the Commissioner of the RCMP.
