Ottawa – Structural rehabilitation of the Pretoria Bridge (located over the Rideau Canal, connecting the Queen Elizabeth Driveway and Colonel By Drive) will result in a variety of traffic impacts beginning Monday, October 19 and ending Wednesday, December 1.
Nightly closures
Pretoria Bridge will be closed nightly, Monday night to Friday night, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., beginning Monday, October 19 until Wednesday, November 4.
During the night work, the bridge will be closed to all traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists.
This work includes repairs to the concrete walls and bridge piers and structural steel repairs to the motor equipment hatches.
Signed detours will be in place.
OC Transpo Route 5 will be detoured during this period. For further information, please visit octranspo.com.
Daily lane reductions
There will be off-peak lane reductions on Pretoria Bridge daily between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., beginning Monday, October 19 until Tuesday, December 1.
During lane reductions one sidewalk will be available to pedestrians.
During construction, there will be a greater need for all road users to share the road safely. When navigating through the detour, be cautious and watch out for construction vehicles and workers, pedestrians, cyclists and other motorists. Signage along the detour will emphasize the need to slow down and share the road.
The City of Ottawa has tools to help motorists and transit users plan their routes and manage their commute, including:
