Airport Taxi drivers took their nine-week-old protest to Parliament Hill Saturday afternoon.
The RCMP said that about 160 people were involved in the peaceful march.
Amrik Singh, president of Unifor Local 1688, which represents the cab drivers, said the protest started around 1 p.m.
“They’re just protesting what’s happening to them, they’re without work for more than two months now,” Singh said.
He said the protest was there to tell people and the public about their feud with the Ottawa Airport Authority and dispatcher Coventry Connections. The labour dispute has been ongoing since early August. Drivers have, at various times, picketed the airport and stalled traffic along the Airport Parkway.
They’re hoping to do away with a new contact between the airport and dispatcher, which removed Airport Taxi drivers’ exclusive rights to pick up fares, and that also increased drivers they must pay.
“We think the federal transport minister should be involved, and that the airport should not be allowed to do this to taxi drivers,” said Singh. “(The transport minister) should pick up the phone and call the airport CEO and ask him why he wants all the money from the drivers’ pockets to go to … the airport authority.”
