The Orléans man accused of killing his son in a drunken rage on July 7 has won bail.

John McRae, 71, has been in jail since he was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Michael McRae, 51.

His lawyer, Joseph Addelman, successfully secured the accused killer’s release on bail conditions that will have McRae in an intense, five-month addiction treatment program at the Ottawa Mission. McRae is then required to live with his daughter and will be subjected to a curfew and random door-knock checks by Ottawa police, according to Justice Paul Kane’s ruling on Monday.

McRae is accused of stabbing his son at their Orléans apartment after a day-long argument.

His daughter and granddaughter posted bonds of $300,000 and $100,00o for his release, and he’s prohibited from drinking or possessing weapons.
