Friends of Deepak Beaudoin-Reichmann, 27, who police suspect died of a drug overdose and who body was found dumped in a creek south of Kemptville, have taken to Facebook to organize a memorial for the well-liked restaurant worker.
More than 66 people have indicated they would attend the gathering early next week at either Irene’s Pub on Bank Street or Bowman’s Bar and Grill on Carling Avenue. The details are still being hammered out.
“It brings me unbelievable sadness to be writing this to you all. By now we have heard the news that our beloved friend Deepak Beaudoin has left us to embark on a new journey,” wrote the event’s host Jesse Hawkins on a Facebook page promoting the get-together. “Unfortunately the circumstances of his passing are very complex and disturbing so I thought it would be right to have some kind of closure in the form of a informal wake. I’m coming to tears writing this.”
Several other friends of the victim expressed grief and shared fond sentiments about the man they knew.

Deepak Beaudoin-Reichmann, 27, whose body was found in a duffle bag in Kemptville Creek last week.
“He was one of a kind and marched to the beat of his own drum,” wrote Gabbie Lazarovitz on the memorial page for Beaudoin-Reichmann. “I have always had a lot respect for him.”
Police sources have confirmed they believe Beaudoin-Reichmann, 27, whose body was found in a duffel bag in a creek 20 minutes south of Kemptville last Wednesday, died of a drug overdose.
While physical testing continues, it is believed Beaudoin-Reichmann died prior to being thrown into a large bag and dumped into the isolated creek near a hamlet called Bishop’s Mills.
Investigators believe fellow partiers who were with the victim may have panicked and then decided to transport and leave his lifeless body.
Family members have stated that the victim suffered from depression and was struggled with addiction issues over the years. They also claim that came into a small inheritance, of around $5,000, just before his disappearance.
On Tuesday, OPP said it was seeking to identify three men that they believe could know more about how the victim died or why his body was abandoned. Police said Tuesday the men were seen in a silver pickup truck with a full cap on the back.
The outpouring of support from his friends in the Ottawa area supports claims made by Beaudoin-Reichmann’s cousin Travis Koch who described the man as a hard worker who was trying to make his way in life. Koch said the struggle that faced his cousin was a battle with mental illness that few people seemed to know about.
“Starting in 2007 he tried to find himself psychiatric treatment, but there’s not really anything available. It’s really sad. I picked him up from the ER about half a dozen times after being discharged from the ER without having even talked to anybody,”said Koch, also 27.
Koch said he and Beaudoin-Reichmann grew up together. Beaudoin-Reichmann bounced around a bit. He has family in Northern Ontario, his mother lives in Barrie, and he has other family members in the Niagara area. More recently, he lived with Koch for an extended period of time. In fact, Koch is the reason that his cousin first moved out to Ottawa in 2006.
“We’ve been best friends since we were 12 years old. We pretty much did everything together,” said Koch. “It was a natural fit. We were natural friends. Compared to Toronto, where he started getting into trouble, he thrived in Ottawa.”
The preparations for an Ottawa memorial come at the same time that Beaudoin-Reichmann’s family are finalizing funeral arrangements. A funeral for the victim is expected to be held in Barrie, this weekend.
