Ottawa – Motorists are reminded that a section of Highway 417 will be closed in both directions starting on Friday, October 23 at 11 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Sunday, October 25. This closure is required by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) to replace the Kent Street Bridges.

The public is advised to plan all trips well in advance as significant delays are expected during the closure.

The following detours will be in effect during the Highway 417 closure:

Eastbound detour:

  • Motorists must exit Highway 417 at Rochester Street, proceed east on Orangeville Street to Booth Street, south on Booth Street to Carling Avenue, east on Carling Avenue to Bronson Avenue, then south on Bronson Avenue to Riverside Drive.
  • Motorists will then travel north on Riverside Drive to the eastbound Highway 417 on-ramp, located before the Vanier Parkway Bridge.

Westbound detour:

  • Motorists exit Highway 417 at Catherine Street, proceed west down Catherine, and access the 417 via the on-ramp at Raymond Street. The Lyon Street on-ramp will also remain open during this weekend closure.

Additional closures affecting Highway 417 traffic during the October 23 weekend include:

  • Parkdale Avenue and Carling Avenue on-ramps to the 417 eastbound will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, October 23 to midnight Sunday, October 25
  • O’Connor Street on-ramp to the 417 westbound remains closed and will reopen on Monday, October 26
