CANHAVE (Canadians Helping AIDS Victims with Education) Children’s Centre, an Ottawa-based charity, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. CANHAVE is a Canadian/Ugandan partnership that funds the education of vulnerable children so they can survive and thrive, gain skills and become independent, contributing Ugandans. CANHAVE provides an education and a mentor to Ugandan children who have lost both parents to HIV/AIDS to increase their sense of belonging, safety and security to realize a brighter future. The 20th anniversary dinner will be held on Friday, Oct. 30 at the Centurion Centre. The event starts at 6 p.m. The dinner will feature “THE FACES of CANHAVE” both in Canada and Uganda. There will be a silent auction, quilt raffle, crafts from Uganda and a wonderful meal. Children at Risk, Ottawa presents its 20th annual Celebrity-Carved Pumpkin Contest fundraiser from Thursday, Oct. 22 to Sunday, Oct. 25. For more than 36 years, Children at Risk has been providing supports to autistic children and their families in the Ottawa region, filling in the gaps in services available through government agencies. The pumpkin creations will be on display at Merivale Mall after a reception at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, then additionally at Carlingwood Shopping Centre, Place d’Orléans and Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre from Friday, Oct. 23 to Sunday, Oct. 25. Visitors to the malls can vote for their favourite pumpkin or celebrity by donating spare change. Celebrities have also donated “prize packages” for silent auction bidding (onsite and online at www.childrenatrisk.ca )

Causeway Foundation is hosting the Unmasking Mental Illness fundraiser on Oct. 27 to benefit employment programs for people with mental illness. The event will take place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Orange Art Gallery, 290 City Centre Ave. The evening marks the launch of the 15th annual Holiday Card Campaign, Causeway’s signature fundraiser, which has raised more $195,000 for employment programs for people with mental illness and other barriers. It will be hosted by CBC Radio’s Rita Celli and will include a presentation of awards and a silent auction.
