The massive storm front containing the remnants of Hurricane Patricia has entered the Eastern Ontario region, bringing high winds and large quantities of rain with it.

The storm front, which stretches from Georgian Bay in the north to Buffalo, NY, was just entering Kingston as of around 8 a.m. and, according to radar reports, should reach the Ottawa area sometime after 10 a.m. bringing between 20 mm and 45 mm of rain, according to Environment Canada.

Winds are expected to gust up to 70 km/h, prompting the Hydro One utility to release a warning to residents of the nation’s capital about the potential for power outages and downed electrical lines.

The City of Ottawa has also warned residents to clear catch basins and eavestroughs of leaves to minimize the chances of flooding or water damage.

Temperatures are expected to remain around 9 C. Temperatures are expected to climb as high as 14 C on Thursday after the storm moves on.

Hurricane Patricia was the most intense hurrican ever recorded in North America when it made landfall in Mexico last week. It was classified as a category 5 hurricane, bringing massive amounts of rain and wind gusting up to 300 km/h. The storm has weakened and dissipated as its worked its way North across the continent.
