A 25-year-old man accused of robbing a Bank Street pharmacy was arrested Wednesday after a brief police chase ended when the driver got stuck in traffic.
Police said a man wearing a disguise and armed with an imitation handgun confronted two employees at a pharmacy on Bank Street near Hunt Club Road around 11 a.m.
He fled to a waiting vehicle with an undisclosed amount of drugs, police said. The driver refused to stop for police when patrol officers spotted the vehicle near St. Laurent Boulevard and Walkley Road.
A chase ended a short time later when the driver hit heavy traffic near Walkley and Lancaster roads.
Brian Towell is charged with two counts of robbery, using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, wearing a disguise, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.
