“locomOtion,” a 6.8-metre-high aluminum sculpture spanning the length of the O-Train platform at Carleton University was unveiled on November 3. It was commissioned by the City of Ottawa.
The artwork was created by local artist Stuart Kinmond, as part of the O-Train Expansion Project. Kinmond is a Montreal native and long-time architect who has lived in Ottawa since 1984. He is now a full-time visual artist working in paint, digital media and installations. Kinmond studied at McGill University and the Ottawa School of Art.
The artwork’s sequence of wheel segments reflect the idea of movement and travel. The red panels are inspired by the OC Transpo logo and are intended to reflect the ambient light of passing trains.
