Three people have been displaced after two fires in Gatineau Friday.
Firefighters responded to a residential fire at 297 Rue Laramée at around 2:30 p.m., where they found a fire in progress, and an “aggressive attack” knocked the flames down less than an hour-and-a-half later, the Gatineau fire service said in a release.
This limited the fire to one part of the building, mitigating further damage, the service said. One person was displaced.
A fire investigator was on scene and the damage was estimated at $50,000.
Firefighters later responded to a fire at 9 Rue Talbot in the Hull sector shortly after 5 p.m. Four floors of the building — 60 people — were evacuated due to the fire, firefighters said. Firefighters said the cause appears to be unattended cooking, which they noted is responsible for 20 per cent of fires.
The fire was under control by 6:42 p.m., firefighters said, and no one was injured.
The damage, which has not yet been determined, was limited to the original unit.
Two people have been displaced and are in the care of the Red Cross.
